Crochet bags are a stylish and functional accessory for the summer season. In this article, we’ll show you how to make a paper string knitted summer mini bag, complete with materials and step-by-step instructions.
Materials:
- Paper string yarn in your choice of color
- Crochet hook (size H/5.00mm)
- Stitch marker
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Wooden beads (optional)
- Leather cord or ribbon (optional)
Instructions:
Step 1: Make a magic circle with your paper string yarn. Chain 1.
Step 2: Work 6 single crochet stitches into the magic circle. Place a stitch marker in the last stitch to mark the beginning of the round.
Step 3: Work 2 single crochet stitches into each stitch around. You should have 12 stitches in total. Move the stitch marker to the last stitch of the round.
Step 4: Work 1 single crochet stitch into the first stitch, then 2 single crochet stitches into the next stitch. Repeat this pattern around (1 sc, 2 sc), moving the stitch marker to the last stitch of the round. You should have 18 stitches in total.
Step 5: Work 1 single crochet stitch into the first 2 stitches, then 2 single crochet stitches into the next stitch. Repeat this pattern around (2 sc, 2 sc), moving the stitch marker to the last stitch of the round. You should have 24 stitches in total.
Step 6: Work 1 single crochet stitch into the first 3 stitches, then 2 single crochet stitches into the next stitch. Repeat this pattern around (3 sc, 2 sc), moving the stitch marker to the last stitch of the round. You should have 30 stitches in total.
Step 7: Continue increasing the number of stitches in each round in this pattern until the base of the bag is the desired size. For our mini bag, we stopped at round 9 with 54 stitches in total.
Step 8: Work 1 single crochet stitch into each stitch around for several rounds, until the bag is the desired height. For our mini bag, we worked 12 more rounds, for a total of 21 rounds in all.
Step 9: To create the drawstring closure, work 1 single crochet stitch into each stitch around for the first round. On the second round, work 1 single crochet stitch into the first 3 stitches, then chain 3 and skip the next 3 stitches. Repeat this pattern around. On the third round, work 1 single crochet stitch into each stitch and chain of the previous round. On the fourth round, work 1 single crochet stitch into the first 3 stitches, then work 6 single crochet stitches into each chain space around.
